Visions

I thought I would take a moment to explain our vision for Synapse-EMR.  Those of you who have trialled out electronic medical records will have come to quickly realise that this genre of software tends to be very complex.   No wonder that vendors tend to assume that most users will require several days of onsite training, or will need to be flown to corporate headquarters to be trained!

But does software that manages a complex domain have to be also complex?  Does the nature of the domain control the interface that navigates it?  I think not.  In my own clinical practise, I am primarily interested in documenting the patient encounter, recording medications and prescribing, capturing results, and communicating these findings to other medical practitioners.  And this is what Synapse-EMR aims to do well.  I don't think this is rocket science, and the EMR should be intuitive enough, or should give enough hints from within the product, so that these tasks can be simply accomplished.

While there are some tasks eg. custom form creation, that may require a more complete understanding of how things work, our vision is to make it so that users of Synapse-EMR can be productive only after a few minutes of being introduced to it.  The feedback from users is telling us that we are achieving that goal.
