Well, I have managed to get a build running on Fedora Core 6.  The GUI comes up, and most things work except printing, prescriptions, pdfs, PostScript preview ... lots to fix
 

Of course the default form of printing on Linux is postscript .. so that will make things much easier!

I'm also thinking of doing an Mac OSX build.  Use one of those cute $500 mini Macs as a workstation.

1. No printing

 Compiled for Libc6 .. so should work under Redhat, Suse.  Only tested though under Fedora core 6.

Linux testers should note the following:

The download directory is http://www.compkarori.com/emr/fedora/alpha/ and you should choose the highest numbered version.

You need to download and install these true type fonts http://synapsedirect.com/files/folders/284/download.aspx 

They are necessary for the print preview in PostScript.

These fonts should be installed ( as root ) to /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ as Synapse EMR will specifically look in that directory to use these fonts.

There appears to be a problem with Suse/Fedora on using these fonts, but Debian should work.

Looks like different distros have their own ideas where to put truetype fonts, so I will have to create a user preference.

Just stuff the fonts into
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype and run "SuSEconfig -module fonts".
In order to have them available in the current session, run
"xset fp rehash". 

For Debian, you may need to install libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 which can done by using the Synaptics package manager to install libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2

You make also need to install the package ttmkfdir to install the Truetype fonts.

Working:

1. Opening documents with browser
2. Set browser in Settings/Misc
3. Opening PostScript and PDF documents
4. Set PDF/PS viewer in Settings/PostScript

Not working

1. PostScript print preview from Synapse for Prescriptions and Plotting of serial results

Printing is currently untested.

Network printing is already working.

Next, need to check if can get local printing to Postscript printer attached to parallel port.

Saw some patients today using the Linux build.  Noticed a few visual glitches that are not present in the Windows build.

Fixed the visual glitch that lost the button to close the encounter window.

Now calls lp when attempting to print to the parallel port.

Bold fonts now show up correctly ( changed the system font from Arial to Helvetica ).

Printing using lp now works as tested under Suse 10.

The server and user name is now saved as a local file so that it can be restored on restarting.
