It will close down those windows as long as you don't have focus inside a text field. 

Try it ... click on the window itself to take the focus out of the text field and then try Escape.

Oh I see. No worries then.  I certainly DO want the cursor to automatically start in the Quick Search for speed and the vitals ... no big whoop.  Vitals isn't a "BROWSING" Popup anyway.  So you shouldn't be opening it just to close it again quickly.
