This new script fires up firefox to send an email inside Gmail to the current patient.

 If you use Yahoo or other webmail, I presume you can modify it for your web mail system.

(1) I send emails from gmail accounts from my local Outlook 2007.

(2) This script calls up Web Based Gmail and sends emails directly in Gmail.

Is it fair to say both methods are equally secure, in that they are both entirely SSL ?

Only if the recipient is also on Gmail and uses a secure login.
