The current soon to be finalised betas allow for tags to be placed against an encounter. Each patient has a set of tags that can be automatically applied against each encounter, and these can be added to. There may also be a list of all the tags used in the system so that you can choose an existing tag rather than make up your own.
Tagging is a way to quickly find a particular encounter without having to search on all of the encounter text. It some ways it is like the meta data in web pages used by indexing services.
For example, say I want to record all the times I give a patient with RA a cortisone injection. If I have a "inject" tag, then each time I write that I have injected a joint, this tag can now be used to show all those encounters. The alternative is to add the injection as a procedure ... which is somewhat more time consuming.
I guess we will find more uses for tags as we get used to using them.
