- Click on the "Add New" button and select the consultation type. Click on "OK".
- Now click on the consultation area which says "Ready" to bring up the editor, or click on the "To Word" button to start editing in Microsoft Word.
- If you choose to use the consultation editor, you can now either
- type into the editor
- dictate using a compatible voice recognition software program
- Select a previously created template using the search field, or one of the organ system specific buttons
- To finish the consultation note, if using MS Word, use the "Get Word" button to import the text into Synapse EMR, and if using the editor, then use the "Save" button.
- If you make multiple revisions, each version is saved separately and can be recalled using the "Versions" button.
2. Printing A Consultation
The main reason to print a consultation is to send a letter to a referring physician, or to refer the patient to consultant. In both cases the recipient must be set up as a provider. If sending a letter to a patient, this is not required.
Briefly, in the "Providers" tab, clear the fields, and then enter the details of the provider if they don't already exist. Use the "Save New" button to save. Then once the new provider is saved, click the "Search" button to make them current, and then click on "Add CC". If that provider is their family physician, click on "Make Primary" instead. You can check that this has been done by switching to the Patients/Details/Personal & Contact tab.
- Click on the "Print" button.
- To send a letter to the patient, tick the "To Patient" check. To address the letter to someone else, click "Clear" and select a correspondent. Additional correspondents become CCs. The font size, and paper sizes only work with PDFLaTeX printing.
